Lucky Flight fared best of our four runners at Perth last Sunday, bouncing back to form to take third in the feature 2m handicap chase. He hasn’t been the easiest to train thus far, but he is certainly talented and is settling much better nowadays.
We also saw a more encouraging performance from Southern Girl who was a staying-on fifth in the 3m novice handicap chase. On just her second start over fences, her jumping was still a little novicey, but she warmed to her task and offered hope for the future with her late rally. Of our other two runners, Boy’s On Tour once again failed to fire and we’ll get him thoroughly checked over before his next outing, whilst Gripper found the rain-softened ground and drop back to 2m against him in the finale.
This week has been a busy one at home with the majority of the winter string now back in training and doing miles of trotting and light cantering as we look to build up their fitness ahead of the core season. On the track, we have Methodtothemadness heading to Cartmel tomorrow aiming to follow up her impressive win at Hexham last month. The handicapper has had his say, raising her 8 lb as a result of her 11-length success, but this will be only her fourth start over fences and we hope there is more improvement to come.
